EastSide Sound was operating as a 2/4 track recording studio in 1968. Founder Lou Holtzman created a sole proprietorship in 1972 and incorporated in 1981, making it possibly the longest-running Recording & Mixing studio in New York City.
As of September of 2022, Producer/Engineer/Musician/Andres Pollak became the new studio owner moving EastSide Sound to continue making Wonderful recordings into the future.

In 1968, Lou Holtzman converted his grandparent’s Lower East Side tenement into a recording studio for him and his friends to play and record music.

In 1972 he incorporated with the city of New York to form East Side Sound Co LLC.

In 2000 Lou closed the doors to the Allen Street location and moved to our current home – 150 Forsyth Street.

In 2022, after 50 years as owner and proprietor, Lou sold the business to Andres Pollak : the current owner of the studio. Andres will keep the tradition of jazz and independent music recording in lower Manhattan alive.

Today, Eastside Sound is the second oldest studio in New York City.

We are proud to have worked with artists such as: Les Paul, John Zorn, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Hal Willner, Jon Lucien, Tommy Flanagan, George Coleman Grady Tate, Norman Hedman, Steve Torre, Ray Drummond, Cedar Walton, Will Lee, Kenny Drew Jr, Robin Eubanks, Duane Eubanks, Louis Hayes, Chico Freeman, Kenny Barron, Randy Brecker, Art Farmer, Mark Carey, Frank Foster, Alex Foster, Horace Tapscott, T.M.
